2000 Northwest Cup and Regional
Grand Prix
The Northwest Cup is one of CAT's premier trials. It includes one of the regional qualifiers for the Animal Planet/USDAA Grand Prix of Dog Agilitysm World Championships, this year to be held in San Diego in September. Yes, that's the one you saw on Animal Planet last year. With a West Coast location, many CAT members are itching to go. It also includes the awarding of the Northwest Cup traveling trophy to the dog and handler team in Open (jumping 22 inches and above) and Mini (under 22 inches) who are "Best in Trial"as determined by the combined scores of the two Standard Agility (titling) events for all classes. Trophies are also given to the "Best in Class" Open and Mini dog/handler teams in each class. Ties are broken on the basis of the fastest average speed (yards per second).
The weather was typical Oregon late-February -- not too cold but lots of rain on Saturday, turning the Clackamas County Fairgrounds into a fair approximation of a mud pit. Some handlers, who shall remain nameless were even observed carrying their rather large dogs through the mud so their feet wouldn't get too muddy. But no matter. It was dry (mostly) inside and a new record of over 280 dogs participated -- by far a new record for NW USDAA trials. Tim Laubach of San Antonio, Texas set the Masters and Grand Prix courses while Pat Charlton of Sylmar, California took care of the Starters/Novice and Advanced courses.
Turning first to the Grand Prix....

| Once more Jim Hibbard and the rest of the trial committee did a wonderful job. For many of us, once again, it's "Wait till next year!" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
