Over 230 dog/handler teams gathered at Clackamas County Fairground to participate in the fourth running of the Northwest Cup on February 24 – 25. This popular event features one of the first of the season local qualifiers for the USDAA/Animal Planet Grand Prix of Dog Agility.  Dogs that qualify are eligible to go to the USDAA Nationals, this year to again held on the West Coast at Del Mar, CA on September 20-23.

But the Grand Prix is only part of it.  There is also CAT's NW Cup.  Best in Trial is awarded to the open (22 inches and up) amd mini (16 inches and below) who have the best scores in their two standard agility runs for the weekend.  Ties were broken by yards/sec for the combined runs.  In addition, cups are awarded to the open and mini dogs with the best scores in each level (starters, novice, advanced and open) for both Championship and Performance.  We give away a lot of glass ware!!

The Grand Prix Qualifier
Out of 129 dog/handler teams, 58 managed to qualify in CAT’s “Local Grand Prix Qualifier”! Scott Bartley’s course was “interesting” with several tricky spots that took a toll of many of the dogs and handlers (here were 50 “elimination’s”!! ). One of these was a tight turn after jump #4 to the teeter (#5)! Another heart-breaking trouble spot was #17, the weave poles to the “far side” entrance of the tunnel (#18), and then over the last jump. There were several dogs who either took the “wrong” entrance of the tunnel, or simply didn’t do the tunnel, and went right over the jump! Any of these errors will get you an “E”, as Qualifiers are judged by Master Rules! (off course = “E”)

The 19 CAT members, who managed to qualify are:

26” - Jim Basic/Mick (1st), Jim Basic/Wicked (2nd), Herb Gercke/Oso (3rd), Dick Watson/Duncan (4th), Bill Street/Ms E, Paula Ratoza/Higgins, Bridget Downey/Sunny, Kathy McDaniel/Tag, Marilyn Watson/Angus,   Janice Tsuchida/Charlie,

22” - Berklee Robins/Sasha (4th), Tammy Moody/Blaze, Debbie Berkley/Nahtaki, Christine Barr/Sadie, Lori Vanderburg/Scuff, Jim Hibbard/Baron,  Mary Gutknecht/Jet.

16” - Paige Peirce/Dash, Hilary Hankins/Buttons (4th), Chris Doyle Roemmich/Mandee.

12” - Matthew Sachs/Sky.

A hearty Congratulations to all these CAT members!

 The Northwest Cup
